Santa Muerte oil – Santa Muerte is associated with healing, protection, and safe delivery to the afterlife by her devotees.

Santa Muerte is a female divinity, folk saint, and subject of cult worship in both Mexico Neopaganism and folk Catholicism. Her devotees regard her as a personification of death who has the power to heal, guard, and ensure that people travel to the afterlife safely. With the turn of the twenty-first century, her fan base has significantly increased despite being denounced by the Catholic Church. There are now between 10 and 20 million Santa Muerte devotees throughout Mexico, parts of Central America, the United States, and Canada, an increase from ten to twenty years ago.

A skeleton of a lady wearing a long robe and holding one or more objects—typically a scythe and a globe—is used to depict Santa Muerte. Her robes can be any color, despite more accurate representations of the figure varying considerably from devotee to devotee and depending on the ceremony being performed or the request being made. She is also referred to as the Godmother, the White Lady, the White Sister, and the Lady of Shadows.

Also associated with Santa Muerte are scales, an hourglass, an owl, and an oil lamp. The balance of the scales represents God’s will as well as fairness, justice, and impartiality. Because the hourglass can be turned upside down to begin again, people think that life does not end with death. Santa Muerte’s link with time and the worlds above and below is symbolized by the hourglass. Also, it shows patience. An owl is a symbol of knowledge and the capacity to navigate through the night. The owl is supposedly a messenger as well. A light is a representation of spirit and intelligence. It illuminates the path by casting a light into the ignorance and doubt that surround it.
